March 2026 Individual Due Dates: The Final Countdown

We have officially entered the final stretch of tax season. With the April filing deadline on the horizon, March is a pivotal month for tying up loose ends, ensuring compliance, and finalizing your returns.

Whether you are a service professional in West Palm Beach or a business owner in Phoenix, staying ahead of these dates is essential for avoiding penalties and minimizing stress.

March 10: Reporting Tips to Your Employer

For those in the hospitality and service sectors, accurately tracking income is critical. If you received more than $20 in tips during February, the IRS requires you to report them to your employer by March 10 using IRS Form 4070.

You can use the official form or a detailed written statement containing:

  • Your signature, name, address, and Social Security number.
  • Your employer’s name and address.
  • The specific period covered and the total tips received.

Why this matters: Your employer uses this data to withhold the correct FICA and income taxes. If your regular wages cannot cover these withholdings, the uncollected amount will show up in Box 8 of your W-2, and you will be responsible for paying it when your annual return is filed.

March 16: The "Soft Deadline" for Tax Appointments

We are approximately one month away from the individual filing deadline. If you haven't secured a spot on our calendar at Tangible Accounting, we strongly urge you to do so now.

A common misconception is that you must have every single receipt organized before calling us. That is not the case. If you are waiting on a specific K-1 or a corrected 1099, don't let that delay the process. We can start preparing your preliminary return now and list the missing items to plug in later.

Even if you anticipate needing an extension, preparing a draft return now allows us to estimate your tax liability. Remember, an extension to file is not an extension to pay. Estimating your balance now helps minimize interest and penalties later.

Standard Rules & Disaster Relief

As always, if a due date falls on a weekend or legal holiday, you have until the next business day to file. Additionally, if you are in a federally designated disaster area, you may be eligible for automatic extensions.

Do not wait until the final hour. Contact Tangible Accounting today to ensure your filing is handled with the precision and expertise you deserve.
